Import / Export
NORTRAIL Norsk Trailer Express AS handles import and export shipments between Norway and Scandinavia / the rest of Europe. In most countries we have 2-3 departures a week, both import/export. See our schedule for country specific information. We handle all types of regular general cargo and dangerous goods with few exceptions. We can also arrange the transport of heat-sensitive goods. Most transports are carried on our own or partners equipment, with the exception of heat-sensitive goods. We have a large fleet of own trailers that handle your shipments. We use Norwegian and foreign drivers who are quality assured so that they have the appropriate equipment on the truck as well as ADR approval for handling dangerous goods. We also require that our drivers speak Nordic, English or German language.
Invoicing
Our invoice is sent electronically to you as soon as possible after a transport together with the customs declaration. An agreement can also be made for sending the invoices automatically via EDI. Let us know if you need to learn more about this.
Claims on Invoices
If our shipping invoice does not match up, this must be reported to us in writing within 8 days. State the reason why you consider the invoice not to be correct and the claim will be sent to our accounting department for further processing. The complaint will be registered in our system and reminders will be put on hold until the invoice claim is processed. Expected processing time is a maximum of 8 days after registration.
Payweight calculations LDM/PLTS
Scandinavia: 1 LDM = 2000 kgs / 1 EUR-plt = 800 kgs (1,2 m length x 0,8 m width)
Europe: 1 LDM = 1850 kgs / 1 EUR-plt= 740 kgs (1,2 m length x 0,8 m width)
1 seapallet = 1000 kgs (1,2m x 1m x height) / 1 seapallet = 1200 kgs (1,2 m x 1,2m x height) Further details for payweight calculations can be found hereHow to calculate prices according to the offer
Firstly you must find out if the goods measurements exceeds the weight. Voluminous cargo is either cubic meters/m3 or loading meters/LDM. Loading meter goods (LDM) equals goods that cannot be combined and is non stackable. E.g. goods can be damaged if we load other goods on top, cannot double stack the pallets or dangerous goods. 1 EUR pallet = 0.4 LM.
Cubic meter (m3) is calculated when the goods can be placed on top of other shipments when the weight is low. Calculating CBM can be done by measuring: length x width x height. 1 m3 = 333 kg.
It will not cost less in shipping to send more by weight. The prices are given weight groups, which means that they decrease for each weight group. For consignments that are close to the next weight bracket, it can look cheaper to send, for example, 1100 kg than 960 kg. The general rule for these is that the maximum amount in one weight group will be the minimum amount in the next group.
Insurance
All assignments are carried out in accordance with the currently applicable provisions of the Road Freight Contracts Act, NSAB and the CMR Convention.
All carriers have limited liability for damage/shortage calculated upwards of SDR 8.33/kg of damaged or lost goods. SDR (also XDR) is an international currency for special drawing rights. The exchange rate can be found on the banks' currency pages here. SDR 8.33 amounts to 20.01.20. NOK 102.71/kg. No carrier have consequential liability. For you as a customer, this means that if your cargo is worth more than the limitation amount per kilo, you should acquire a transport insurance to secure your values.
Whether you should acquire an insurance will also depend on the delivery conditions under which you have purchased the products. Who bears the transport risk - you or the consignor?
If the delivery terms are DAP or DDP, it is the cinsignor, if they are EXW or FCA/free border, it is you. Whoever bears the transport risk should acquire an insurance for the goods. We recommend that all our EXW customers acquires their own transport insurance.
Remarks on delivery
It is a requirement for you as the recipient that the shipment MUST be examined for damage / shortages upon receipt. If there are visible deviations (damage/shortages), this MUST be noted on the consignment note / CMR or on the PDA. If no remarks are made, this is considered as if the goods were in good condition with no shortages upon receipt.
POD (Proof of delivery)
We mainly use PDAs (small hand-held PCs) or smartphones that the drivers carry with them. These handheld terminals means that the recipient's signature is available in our database just seconds after receipt. For direct delivery, international CMR or our domestic waybills are often used. These are scanned into our database upon return to us. The POD is also automatically sent to the sending party in case of DAP/DDP shipments.
Delivery without time commitment
All our transports are carried out as a transport without a time commitment. We refer to our regular timetable when calculating the delivery time. All information about delivery is an estimated time of delivery, which assumes that nothing unforeseen occurs. If you want a delivery with a time commitment, this must be agreed separately in writing in advance. A special price must be agreed for such a delivery, which is significantly higher than regular deliveries.
Pallet Exchange
We do not offer pallet exchange of EUR pallets / other types of pallets.
Delivery
All deliveries will be done at street level, curb side or to the ramp. Any other means of delivery requirements must be agreed in advance at a separate price.
T-Documents / MRN
T-documents / MRN (Transit document for cross-border goods), issued in the country of origin for the consignment, must be completed in Norway by an authorized consignee. Should you as a customer receive such a document, it MUST be sent to us as soon as possible, if we have handled the shipment. We will then discharge and process this directly with the Customs in the correct manner.
Export clearances
All shipments to and from Norway must be declared by Customs. If needed, we can perform this service for you. If another freight forwarder has issued the export declaration, we must be supplied with the declaration and tracking number.
Import clearances
All shipments into Norway must be declared to the Norwegian Customs. We can supply you with this service. We have a very experienced customs clearance department. The deadline for customs clearance is 10 days after arrival (goods registration) of the shipment into Norway. If you have your own freight forwarder, please inform us of this as soon as possible. Upon arrival of the shipment we will send an arrival notification to your freight forwarder. The shipment must remain in our customs warehouse until a copy of the customs declaration has been sent to us. The shipments will be free of charge for 3 days at our terminal, after which customs warehouse rent is charged.
