Definitions and Transport Expressions
Here you will find an overview and explanation of the many expressions used in transports:
Bill of Lading (B/L)
A bill of lading used during oceanfreight issued by a carrier confirming receipt of goods for shipment.
TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit)
A standard unit for measuring containers, where one TEU equals a 20-foot container.
LCL (Less than Container Load)
A partially loaded container where multiple shipments from different senders are consolidated into one container.
FCL (Full Container Load)
Full container load.
Consignor
The consignor is the sending party of the goods
NSAB
The Nordic Freightforwarders Association' provisions for transport, forwarding and storage.
T-document
The Transit-Document is the permission of the Customs to transport goods from the sender in one country to the recipient in another country via a third country.
Incoterms
A set of standardized rules for delivery conditions that are used in connection with national and international trade transactions. Incoterms describe who bears the responsibilities, risks and costs associated with a transaction, as well as when responsibility passes from the seller to the buyer.
3PL (Third Party Logistics)
Third-party logistics - When a company hires a specialist to run its own warehouse, distribution and other services.

Bulk
Bulk is a type of goods, preferably raw materials, which are transported or stored loose. They are therefore not packed in any packaging or in a container, but are loaded directly into a ship's hold. Examples are oil, ore, grain and coal.

CMR
A CMR covers the mandatory information that an international road waybill must have CMR convention
COC (Carrier`s own container)
A COC, or carrier-owned container, is a container owned by a carrier company and leased to various consignees
COD (Cash on Delivery)
Cash is paid upon delivery
Conversion key
A theoretical factor that makes it possible to calculate pay weight based on cbm and/or ldm Further information can be found here
Cross docking
The consignments from several suppliers are transported on the same transport equipment to the terminal where they are sorted and split. From the terminal, the consignments are distributed to the final recipient.

EAN (European Article Numbering)
Numbering system that gives products a unique optically readable number

Signature from the recipient of the shipment.
SCM (Supply Chain Management)
Management and administration of the supply chain.
SLA
Service Level Agreement.
SSC (Security SurCharge)
Security surcharge

Company that carries out unloading and loading in ports. Both of ships and containers.
THC (Terminal Handling Charge)

TMS (Transportation management system)
Transport Management System is a system for buying, booking and handling freight from one or more transport providers. The system can be stand-alone or integrated into the financial system or the e-commerce system.
VAL (Valuable Cargo)
High value cargo. May require additional load securing, packaging, insurance etc
W/M (Weight/Measurement)
Theoretical weight, which is the highest of real weight compared to cbm conversion
WMS (Warehouse management system)
A warehouse management software system for semi- and fully automated warehouses. It is a flexibel system that increases efficiency. With the help of WMS, your company will be able to adopt advanced location management and optimize the utilization of the space you have at your disposal. The systems are easy to use so that training and start-up can proceed as quickly as possible.
